Study focus

The Master’s Program Finance has been designed to provide – in particular international (non-German) – students with a firm interdisciplinary education in Mathematical Finance. The program is based on the three components (modules): Financial Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Finance (together with insurance). These components are among the focus points in research and education of the faculty and form the core of the successful and long-established Program Wirtschaftsmathematik. The main focus of the program is to provide students with a sound understanding of the modern techniques and theories from Financial Mathematics which are used in financial institutions. Topics include derivative pricing, risk management, discussion of regulatory aspects, operational risk. Emphasis will be put on theoretical foundations from various branches of applied mathematics, in particular Stochastics, which are necessary tools to model complex financial processes and products. Based on a firm theoretical understanding, the program also offers the necessary techniques from Statistics, Numerical Analysis and Computer Science so that students will be able to make good use of mathematical techniques in order to solve practical questions.
