Entrance Qualifications for Teacher Training Colleges in Baden-Württemberg

Baden-Württemberg´s Universities of Education are proud of their European and international profile. They cooperate with numerous colleges worldwide and actively promote a large number of exchange programmes for both students and academics.The International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt) is primarily responsible for the organization and coordination of exchange.

In addition, the international office also represents a number of scholarship and exchange organisations such as the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), the Pädagogischer Austauschdienst (Educational Exchange Organisation),and the Fulbright progamme. It also oversees European scholarship programmes such as SOCRATES and awards the scholarships allocated by the Baden-Württemberg foundation.

The International Office can comprehensively advise students on spending time abroad (overseas study, continuing study, teaching assistantships,language courses, theses, doctoral and research projects and internships).

Usually a foreign student chooses one of two options: 

  • A full degree or diploma course
  • A Semester/Year Abroad programme
The International Office processes applications from international students, and is responsible for the organisation of their stay. ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), the recognition of courses taken by the students, accommodation etc. Courses in „German as a Foreign Language“ and History (for foreign students) are arranged by the international office.

Aptitude / Introductory examinations

Students wishing to study Fine Arts, Music or Sports as a major, minor or additional subject, have to pass the prescribed aptitude or entrance examination. This also applies to students who want to study Aesthetics/Movement Studies (primary school) with a focus on arts and music.
Application forms as well as a leaflet describing these examinations are available at the respective university. Ask the university of your choice about possibilities of exemption as well as the deadlines for application.
Please submit the certificate you have received for passing the aptitude test or the entrance examination or notification of exemption together with the application form for admission.
The application for participation in or exemption from the entrance examination has to be submitted to the university of education of your choice by May 15 of the respective year (time of preclusion) of entrance. A certificate of exemption must also be submitted by persons who have had Sports as a major subject at high school.

Applicants wishing to study at a university of education need to apply directly to the university of their choice. Application forms are available on the homepages of the respective institution of higher education. Apart from the filled in forms candidates have to submit:

  • a photocopy of their university entrance qualification
  • proof of German language proficiency
  • photocopies of all university diplomas, if available
  • photocopies of the “Feststellungsprüfung”

Deadlines for application:

  • January 15 for the following summer semester (studies begin in April)
  • July 15 for the following winter semester (studies start in October)
