If you have a driving license:

You can drive in Germany for up to 6 months (starting on the date that you entered the Federal Republic of Germany). Following this period of time, you will be obliged to take the Theory and Practical driving tests (as a safety precaution). This license is valid all over Europe indefinitely and depending on your abilities costs up to Euro 500. Both examinations may be taken in a wide variety of languages including English.

If you do not have a driving license:

And wish to take one in Germany, you can register at your nearest driving school, where the majority of instructors speak English. All preparation materials are provided in English and both practical and theoretical examinations may be taken in English.

Greencard Holders:

If your spouse holds a Greencard and you are studying, he or she is permitted to drive for up to one year provided they are able to show a valid driving licence and a letter of employment from the company.
