"Advanced Oncology" in Ulm
Beginning in the winter semester of 2010, the University of Ulm will be offering the only English-language postgraduate degree in "Advanced Oncology" in the world. This primarily online Master´s degree course provides doctors and natural scientists the opportunity of giving their careers a fresh boost. Students can complete the planned four semesters in two or four years, giving them the flexibility to accommodate their own individual professional and family needs. Registrations for the new course must be received by 15 May of this year.
"The course is unprecedentedly compact. The new online Master's degree also sets completely new international standards. The key areas of study, such as clinical research, interdisciplinary oncology or management and administration, are presented using various teaching methods which students are able to select for themselves," explains oncologist Dr. Manuela Bergmann, Medical Director of the new degree course. The degree will qualify graduates to assume "top functions in tumour centres, scientific institutions, health service centres or in oncology or pharmaceutical research."
To date, scientists and physicians have found it extremely difficult to filter out the most important additional qualifications based on the insights of the very latest therapies, innovative research approaches and the most up-to-date diagnostic and strategic management procedures from a confusing array of specific advanced training courses in oncology, emphasises the University of Ulm. A range of cooperative agreements with internationally recognised specialist bodies and experts will contribute to quality assurance. The degree has been developed by the International Center for Advanced Studies in Health Sciences and Services (ICAS), the Medical Faculty of the University of Ulm and the Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm (CCCU), the tumour centre at the University Clinic. The degree is supported by the "Master Online" programme launched by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts in the State of Baden-Württemberg.
