Ten year anniversary of the German-Chinese degree course in print and media technology
A gathering of alumni will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of the German-Chinese degree course in printing and media technology in Stuttgart on 11 December 2009. The partners of the dual degree are the Stuttgart Media University (HdM) and the Technical University of Xi’an/China. According to the responsible Dean, Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoffmann-Walbeck, the degree course is absolutely unique.
The Bachelor’s degree course launched in 1999 has been extended in this winter semester by a Master’s degree course. During the degree, German or European students have the opportunity to learn Chinese and Chinese students to learn German. Students also gain a profound knowledge of printing and media technology as well as intercultural experience in their respective partner countries. A German-Chinese dual degree course focusing on packaging technology has also been on offer at the HdM since last year.
The Bachelor’s degree in printing and media technology extends over seven semesters, the fifth and sixth of which are spent at the partner institution. On graduating, students receive the engineering Bachelor’s degree awarded by the HdM and the Technical University of Xi’an. Students who opt to go on to gain a Master’s degree will study for a further period of one year at the partner college. In Stuttgart and in Xi’an students will be provided with one-to-one input and support to enable them to adjust as quickly as possible to the unusual study conditions. Around 60 students are currently enrolled for the course in Stuttgart. The tenth anniversary of the close collaboration between Stuttgart and Xi’an was celebrated in the Chinese city in May of this year. The alumni event in Stuttgart next Friday will concentrate on the exchange of experiences and will include talks and films about the Chinese project run by HdM which was launched with first joint events way back in 1985.
