"Who would have thought that I would start my career in Germany?"

When he was still at “School No. 111” in Saint Petersburg, Alexander Goloverov thought “studying in Germany would be really cool!” Very soon after that he actually became an exchange student and later enrolled at Reutlingen University to study as a “pilot student” in the double Master´s programme Mechanical Engineering. “Who would have thought that I would start my career in Germany? But, if you have an idea and really want to put it into action, you will also have the energy to do so.”
Alexander Goloverov is very happy in his job with Dürr Consulting. “The double programme in Reutlingen and St. Petersburg was the ideal preparation for the job.” The young man began by managing projects in Russia before he started travelling around the world for his consulting tasks. With experience of South American culture in Ecuador he now feels fit to master global challenges – including in his various projects in Germany. “There’s nothing better than diving into international culture”, he believes.
On his first day in Reutlingen – a Sunday, no shops and no office open – he met some Americans on campus who invited him to their dorms until the lady from the international office showed him his reserved room the next day. One month of German courses, excursions, parties and get-togethers – until in October the programme started. “I was surprised and pleased about how nicely things were going”, says the 25-year-old mechanical engineer. When classes started, the Russian students needed hours to get the German script translated before they could study the content. “We really studied hard in the beginning – but it was worth it.” The curriculum - now presented in English - prepared Goloverov for his tasks in industry. “To start with I was very impressed by my Dürr colleagues. Impressed by what they knew and what they were able to do – but now I realize that the same foundations have all been laid in my studies. And I feel fit to face the competition.” Alexander Goloverov is not afraid of the future. He has no doubts or uncertainties. “If the task is interesting, it is fun to work on it and find good solutions.” Thinking of the future, he is considering a Ph. D. and returning home one day: “There is a saying in Russia: Where you where born, you will eventually be needed. I think there is a great deal of truth in that saying”.
