Award-winning international Master´s degree course in mechatronics in Karlsruhe

The international Master´s programme in mechatronic and micro-mechatronic systems which has been offered by the University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe since last year has recently been awarded a prize by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and will now be eligible for subsidy support for some students from other European countries as well as from third countries. During the two year Master´s degree course students will have the opportunity of familiarising themselves with highly-complex mechatronic and micro-mechatronic systems of the type used in modern vehicles, aircraft, satellites, space laboratories, micro laboratories, communication devices, self-controlling optical systems and robotics.

Students study in the local language for one year at a time at two of the three universities taking part in the programme. In addition to the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences these are the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et des Microtechniques in Besançon, France and the Universidad de Oviedo in Spain. Students are awarded a dual M.Sc. degree.

The Master´s degree course will receive funding support from the EU’s “ERASMUS Mundus” educational programme. To date this programme has provided students from non-European ‘third countries’ studying at European institutions of higher education with more than 40,000 euros for two years of study. As of this year “ERASMUS Mundus II” will also provide financial support for European students – in some cases with full scholarships, in others with a significantly lower amount. In total around 940 million euros will be made available for the 103 Erasmus-Mundus Master´s courses up until 2013. Karlsruhe is the only university of applied sciences taking part in this programme alongside ten German research universities. The application deadline for the coming winter semester is the end of June 2009.
