New degree “International Engineering”
As of 2009/2010 Hochschule Furtwangen University (HFU) will be offering its “International Engineering” degree - the first ever engineering programme in Germany with an intercultural focus. The new degree course combines the very latest engineering knowledge with modern languages and also enables students to acquire the wide-ranging social and methodological skills they need for project management purposes - including special know-how in the management of conflict situations. The degree course lasts for seven semesters and includes one semester abroad and one practical semester. Graduates are awarded a Bachelor’s degree.
The new degree course is offered by the Faculty of Economics and the Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering Faculty at HFU’s Villingen-Schwenningen site. The major technical aspects of the degree course include: mechanical engineering and mechatronics, medical engineering, biotechnology and process technology. The Faculty of Economics, recently rebranded as the “HFU Business School”, offers courses on introductory economics, management in international companies and intercultural communication as well as language courses for all its students in English and optionally in Spanish, French or Chinese.
“No-one else in Germany is offering anything even faintly resembling our new degree course,” boasts the HFU Business School Dean, Professor Dr. Markus Hoch. In his view, international engineering graduates will not only make outstanding engineers, “their competence and knowledge of the customs and cultures of other countries will make them ideal representatives for their future employers”.
According to the latest rankings his faculty is one of the best business administration faculties in Germany. There are places for 40 students to enrol for the first semester of the new degree course. The application closing date is July 15.
