Literature crosses cultural borders
Six Chamisso prize-winners will be holding readings at the Pädagogische Hochschule Schwäbisch Gmünd during December 2008 and January 2009. The Adelbert-von-Chamisso Prize has been annually awarded by the Robert-Bosch Foundation since 1985. The Prize honours authors who write in German although it is not their mother tongue. The series of lectures is designed to impart authors’ experiences and thus sensitise people on topics such as Migration and Integration.
The lectures at the Pädagogische Hochschule Schwäbisch Gmünd take place within the framework of the research project Trans-cultural Literatures. The programme includes José F.A. Oliver who was born in Germany with parents from Spain, Iranian writer Sudabeh Mohafez who lives in Germany and Portugal as well as the Chinese writer Que Du Luu born in Vietnam. The current Chamisso prize-winner Michael Stavaric born in the Czech Republic will hold a lecture in December. The programme continues in January with Vladimir Vertlib who was born in Russia and who has now settled in Austria. Marica Bodrozic from Croatia will complete the series at the end of January.
