Karlsruhe – where ideas happen!

The team of three consisting of Niels Gossen, Anna Gossen and Sergey Bessonnitsyn have won the Cisco I-Prize for their innovative business ideas in the area of efficient energy management. The competition had approx. 2.500 entries from 104 countries. The Prize, awarded by the international IT company Cisco Systems, includes a sum of 250,000 US dollars.

The Cisco I-Prize began in Bangalore in 2007 as an international competition of ideas for young entrepreneurs. The aim of the competition was to gather innovations and talents on a worldwide scale and to underline the role of information technology in the promotion of innovation processes. Ideas and comments on business technologies and ideas were exchanged and business plans drafted via an online forum. The winners will have the chance to realise their own business ideas.

The winning team consist of Niels Gossen, who is studying Informatics at the Hochschule Karlsruhe – Technik und Wirtschaft studiert, his wife Anna Gossen, studying Informatics at the Universität Karlsruhe (TH), and her brother Sergey Bessonnitsyn, a systems engineer in a Russian telecommunications company.

The prize-winning innovative idea deals with the handling of energy whereby energy consumption will be controlled more efficiently as well as the ability to use alternative sources of energy such as solar and wind power.

The Karlsruhe region is renowned Europe-wide for their top position in information technology.
