In what kind of society do we live in? This was the question that participants of the Gesellschafter Art Awards 2008 had to deal with. "No step further - und keinen Schritt weiter" was the answer provided by winners Philipp Edler, who studies German-Chinese Printing Technology at the
Stuttgart Media University and Felix Hielscher who studies Software Technology at the
Universität Stuttgart.
In their photography both artists draw attention to the chaos and speed of today’s times and aim to get people thinking. The 21-year old students comment on how people in our modern age walk around the streets with their mobiles and cups of coffee, always 120 percent available and ready to work. Between jetlag and fast-food certain aspects of life are forgotten and therefore they dedicate their work to the “coffee-break”, the point of which is being lost and is resulting in "Burnout to go", as they call it.
The Gesellschafter Art Award is held once a year by Aktion Mensch and ART.Fair 21. The two students from the German-Southwest were among the ten finalists and their work was selected from a total of over 500 entries.
