Innovative Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences
The Albert-Ludwig-Universität in Freiburg and the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) in Argentina will begin the first joint Master’s degree course in Biomedical Sciences (IBMS) in Latin America in October 2008. The aim of the project is to enable the best students the opportunity of international exchange as well as fostering the relationship between the Universities. This cooperation will establish a solid basis for an excellence centre for Biomedicine in Latin America.
The programme is supported by the DAAD and also receives further support from the ARGER Foundation in Buenos Aires and the Bio Thera Foundation in Freiburg. The two-year course, which will take place partly in Buenos Aires and partly in Freiburg, will give students the chance to work with the best scientists from both faculties in the field of biomedicine. The medium of teaching is English with German and Spanish also on the programme. Following completion of the degree, graduates will have the option of applying for a PhD programme either in Freiburg or Buenos Aires.
The Universität Freiburg is one of the oldest universities in Germany and celebrated its 550 year anniversary in 2007. Situated on the picturesque slopes of the Black Forest, it is well-known as a centre for academics and research.
