German-Georgian project begins in autumn 2008

Following the cooperation agreement signed in 2007 between the Jakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University and the Hochschule Heilbronn, this autumn will witness the start of a German-Georgian education project with a new degree course at the Jakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University as well as the training of specialised teachers at the vocational school centres in Telavi and Katshreti. The contents of the degree course sustainable wine management have been closely coordinated with the Hochschule Heilbronn. As is typical of a university in the German Southwest, there is much focus on practice and thus students will be encouraged to gather practical experience in Germany and other wine-making countries. The cooperation agreement also outlines support to be provided in the areas of wine-making, food technology, crop production ecology, informatics and e-Learning.

Students need to have solid knowledge of English and German. The best graduates of the degree course sustainable wine management will be given the additional opportunity to work for a Bachelor Degree in wine business and management at the Hochschule Heilbronn.

Factory managers, who will be teaching students about daily practice, will be trained by the experts in the German Southwest. These measures will be supported by large wine-cellars in the growing areas of Kachetien such as the Telavi Wine Cellars, Teliani Valley, Vinoterra and Schuchmann Wines Georgia.
