Four Chinese students from Tongji University, Shanghai, have earned dual Bachelor’s degrees in vehicle engineering at Hochschule Esslingen. They are the first to have taken part in the exchange between the Chinese-German University of Applied Sciences of Tongji University (CDHAW) and Hochschule Esslingen.

The four students had already completed their Chinese degrees before their one-year stay in Esslingen. Language lessons at CDHAW – where they were also able to attend lectures by guest professors from Germany – familiarized them with the German language and culture.

Three of the four students will be using their dual Bachelor’s degrees as a foundation for Master’s degrees from TU München or RWTH Aachen.

The Chinese-German University of Applied Sciences was established four years ago by a consortium of 15 German institutions of higher learning supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. With the university of applied sciences model, the schools responded to demand in the German and Chinese economies for students well-versed not only in theory, but also in practical applications. At Hochschule Esslingen, Chinese students are eligible for dual degrees in automotive engineering and service, energy and environmental engineering, mechatronics and electrical engineering, and in future, industrial engineering. In return, an equal number of Esslingen students will be able to earn a dual degree in China. Lectures are held there in German and English to accommodate the German students.
