The 25-year-old just completed the exam for her Master of Science in sensor systems technology.

Passed – congratulations! Cui Ning is now a Master of Science in the field of sensor systems technology. “Industry can’t wait to employ graduates from Karlsruhe University,” she says. The young engineer has worked with Bosch, a renowned Swabian technology company with worldwide reach, for her master thesis. Traditionally, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences has partnered closely with industry and both German and international universities. Three years ago, Cui Ning’s professor at the Dalian University of Technology in China offered her the opportunity to do the Master in Baden-Württemberg after completing her Bachelor in physics at home. Now she wants to stay for another couple of years and earn a PhD. She is confident that she will find financial aid and an interesting project.

“The vast, emerging field of sensor technology offers our students very good prospects,” says Prof. Thorsten Leize, co-ordinator of the sensor systems technology master course in Karlsruhe. Every year, young people from all over the world apply for one of the 25 vacancies. The students share their knowledge and their varied cultural backgrounds. They prepare for exams in groups and sometimes even spend their weekends together. “In the first winter I tried skiing but didn’t have the right pants. A German fellow student who was with me gave me his outfit because he thought I needed waterproof pants much more than he did. I was constantly tumbling!” Solidarity, friendship, support and personal interaction among our students is very much enhanced by the excellent activities of our International Office,” Prof. Leize acknowledges. He himself offers a regular get-together for everybody in the course which covers any topic from beer prices to troubles with landlords and questions related to measuring the gas concentration in an exhaustion pipe. Although there are more applicants than free places, applicants with good marks and a suitable individual profile always have the opportunity to attend the sensor systems technology master course in Karlsruhe, a programme which is unique in Germany. Cui Ning would definitely recommend it.
