New M.Sc. in bioinformatics and systems biology at the Universität Freiburg
The
Universität Freiburg will be offering a new Master’s programme in bioinformatics and systems biology starting in the 2008 winter semester. The interdisciplinary programme is a direct result of the
Freiburg Initiative for Systems Biology (FRISYS), a research concept to promote systems biology in Germany financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with a total of €13.5 million. Its goal is to train experts at the interface to the computer and life science disciplines that will move this young, dynamic and challenging scientific field forward.
The Master’s programme is designed for graduates of a Bachelor’s or Diplom programme in computer science, biology or other science who have a basic knowledge of mathematics, computer science, biology, bioinformatics and systems biology. The courses will be in a bilingual format (English and German) for small, international groups. The curriculum is structured to permit students to choose course units flexibly, taking their prior knowledge, desired specialization and language skills into account. The deadline for applications for the upcoming winter semester is the 31st of August.
