International comparison of values systems at the Universität Tübingen
In July 2008, the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen launched its new Communities of Values partnership project. The initiators intend to encourage a global, interdisciplinary dialogue to compare a variety of culturally evolved values systems and examine their specific characteristics. The topic will be explored from literary and jurisprudential perspectives and co-ordinated by Prof. Jürgen Wertheimer (literary studies/comparative literature) and Heinz-Dieter Assmann (law) in partnership with the Deutsch-Französisches Institut and its director Prof. Frank Baasner.
The exchange is set to take place with renowned institutions of higher learning such as Rikkyo University in Tokyo, the Sorbonne in Paris, Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. The partnership is based on a number of components: in addition to grants for young researchers, short guest professorships and publications, regular conferences will deepen the interdisciplinary exchange. The results of the conferences, which will be held twice a year in Tübingen, will be published. The first colloquium on the topic of dialogue has been scheduled for the 20th to the 23rd of November and will explore the diversity of dialogue cultures.
The Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg is financing the exchange with €750,000.00 as a part of the state’s Future Offensive IV programme.
