European E-Quality seal for three Baden-Württemberg universities
For the fourth time, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has awarded its European E-Quality seal to the best of approximately 50 universities vying for the distinction. This year, three of the eight prize winners are based in Baden-Württemberg: the Karlsruhe University of Education, Reutlingen University and Ulm University can be proud to have their achievements in the ERASMUS programme recognized with the seal. The certificates were presented by Dr. Siegbert Wuttig, head of DAAD’s national agency for ERASMUS, in a ceremony at the ERASMUS conference in Bonn in late June.
For the
Karlsruhe University of Education, the award is a special honour: Karlsruhe was the first university of education ever to receive the prestigious European seal of quality for outstanding services in the ERASMUS programme. Its total of 47 bilateral agreements with universities and other institutions of higher learning abroad and the quality of implementation and administration utterly convinced the DAAD. The same applies to
Reutlingen University: in addition to providing exemplary support to students, the school can boast a mobility rate of 44 percent, putting it in third place nationwide. In the 2006/2007 academic year, a total of 261 Reutlingen students spent a semester in another European country, while 51 went abroad for an internship. In addition to its extensive consultation and support measures and English-language curriculum, the careful selection of partner schools and continuous expansion of exchange openings by Ulm University were decisive factors in awarding it the seal of quality.
Ulm University has bilateral agreements with 97 faculties at 77 universities in 21 countries.
The ERASMUS programme, a driving force behind the exchange of German and foreign students and instructors, is one of the true success stories of the European Union. To date, 1.7 million students and around 170,000 instructors from 31 European countries have received support. The DAAD’s European E-Quality seal is designed as a motivation to improve the quality of mobility measures, recognize the achievements of dedicated institutions of higher learning and enhance public awareness.
