CHE Ranking: Excellent universities in the German Southwest

The most successful German university according to the reissue of the CHE Ranking List is the University of Mannheim. It achieved the best possible evaluation in three of the subjects that were updated in this list: In Business Studies and Political Science, Mannheim was in all five possible top groups and in Sociology, Mannheim reached the top group in all six categories – an excellent result!

Reutlingen University came out on top among the polytechnics in Business Studies and was the only college to make it into all five top groups; high achievers in Business Studies, with four out of five, were the universities in Biberach, Konstanz and Nürtingen.
In Industrial engineering, the universities of applied sciences in Albstadt and Konstanz (Faculty of Civil Engineering) as well as Pforzheim performed very well: they made it into four out of five of the top groups.
The University of Applied Sciences Furtwangen was in four out of five of the top groups in the subject of Business Informatics. Together with the Zeppelin University of Friedrichshafen, the Research Universities of Hohenheim, Karlsruhe and Ulm and Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences also made it into four out of five of the top groups in the subject Media/Communication Studies.
In Political Science, the Universities of Konstanz and Tübingen were in four out of five of the top groups. In the Social Work category, the Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Freiburg achieved four out of five possible indicators in the top group.

The CHE – Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung (Centre for Higher Education Development) formed its ranking list based on an examination of over 250 universities and polytechnics. In this most comprehensive and detailed ranking list in German-speaking regions, a third of the subjects are given a new ranking every year; the subjects this year were Media, Business Informatics, Business Studies, Law, Political Science, Social Work, Sociology, Economics and Industrial Engineering. The results are published in ZEIT Studienführer. The survey involved over 200,000 students and 15,000 professors in a total of 2,500 specialist areas with just under 7,500 courses of study.
