The Association of Sponsors for the Promotion of German Science (Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft) and German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD) have honoured the ten best international master’s degree courses offered by German universities for the second time. Degree programmes in Offenburg and Hohenheim were awarded €20,000 in prize money and the “Top 10 International Master’s Degree Courses Made in Germany” quality label. The winning programmes, which are marked by their innovative overall concepts, quality instruction and a high degree of internationalisation, were selected by a distinguished panel of judges from among 76 applicants from 63 universities in thirteen German states.
The Communication and Media Engineering master’s course at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The 25 first-year students of the 2007/08 winter semester hail from seventeen different countries. The programme is four semesters long. The Offenburg is currently working to establish joint degree programmes with universities in Chile, Mexico and Colombia.
The University of Hohenheim has been offering its Agricultural Sciences in the Tropics and Subtropics master’s programme since the 1999 winter semester. The interdisciplinary programme consists of a series of compulsory and optional modules. The modules cover technical, ecological, economic and organisational management issues, highlighting the complex relationships between them. The M.Sc. programme is recognized by universities worldwide. Graduates receive a Master of Science degree, qualifying them for admission to a PhD programme.
