Of around 3,900 institutions of higher learning, only 33 boast the three most important marks of quality, the so-called Triple Crown. Thanks to its accreditation by the British Association of MBAs (AMBA), Mannheim Business School is the first school in Germany to achieve that distinction. Both MBA programmes – the one-year full-time Mannheim MBA course and the part-time ESSEC & MANNHEIM Executive MBA – were recognized by the AMBA. In 2000, Mannheim was rigorously tested by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in St. Louis, MI, USA, and in 2004 by the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) in Brussels, and was accredited by both organizations.

The Mannheim Business School, which focuses on executive education, is closely linked to the School of Business Administration of the University of Mannheim. The school was subjected to several months of testing by the AMBA. The accreditation process included a two-day visit by a commission of experts that interviewed key members of the faculty and business school administrators, as well as students, alumni and guest lecturers. Their questions focused on the quality, international nature and practical orientation of the MBA programmes.

The Triple Crown is both a mark of distinction and a quality assurance instrument. The accreditations are only valid for a limited period, making it essential for schools to continuously improve their courses, organisational structures and processes. Students also benefit from the school’s added prestige, as enterprises consider accreditation to be an important indicator of quality.
