Albstadt-Sigmaringen University landed two successful projects in the “Innovative Projects and Partnerships” development programme.

The first revolves around cell damage repair mechanisms and related active substances. Professor Jörg Bergemann is the head of the Biomedical Engineering master programme and is currently working in the field of tissue engineering. Rejuvenation effects have been observed in endogenous cells that have been grown in the laboratory to help heal burns and sports injuries. The mechanisms that control that rejuvenation are being studied in the project with the aim of developing substances that can help mitigate the effects of aging.

The second project is related to communication and software technology and is developing tests for embedded distributed systems with real-time properties. Professor Silvije Jovalekic is studying complex, security-relevant fail-safe building surveillance systems such as fire alarms.

Baden-Württemberg promotes research and development projects at Universities of Applied Sciences with its “Innovative Projects and Partnerships” programme. A total of €1.4 million in funding is available for 2007 and 2008.
