Testing Centre for German as a Foreign Language in Stuttgart
Prospective students wishing to attend a German university may now take the mandatory language test at the newly-opened TestDaF Centre at the Universität Stuttgart. Five testing dates are scheduled per year, and 32 young people from 17 countries took the first such test in Stuttgart on 13 February.

The TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) is a recognised prerequisite for attendance and was patterned after the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam. Unlike the DSH exam (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang), the test is standardised and is corrected centrally. The structure of the test permits acceptance standards to be differentiated according to subjects of study and educational goals. The written test covers basic organisational issues and course contents. A computer-controlled oral test documents the applicant’s communication skills in a day-to-day university environment. The test is also suitable as a qualified certification of language skills for exchange students.
