The national competition entitled profile and cooperation – excellence strategies for small and mid-sized universities was held by the foundation association of German science (Stifterverband der Deutschen Wissenschaft) and the Heinz-Nixdorf Foundation. The aim of the competition was to outline with which specific strengths each university is going to position itself in the scientific system and what it would like to achieve.
With their joint programme, the funding association and Nixdorf Foundation aim to identify, promote and accompany small and mid-sized universities with innovative models and complete strategies. The national competition was a tough one and had applications from a total of 54 universities from the whole of Germany, including two universities and seven universities of applied sciences from the German Southwest.
The University of Applied Forest Sciences Rottenburg was proud to stress their successful cooperations, their essential roots in the latest developments. This strategy has successfully been strengthened over the years. The core of the strategy is the close cooperation the University has with the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences and Ulm. The universities jointly offer the renowned master degree course SENCE - Sustainable Energy Competence.
However, this is only the latest piece of good news from the University. Only a few weeks beforehand, it was merited for the second time by the UNESCO and named as an official UNESCO project.
Both these awards show that the University has been honoured for its commitment to propogating thought on sustainability. The course offerings at the University underline the subtext – studying in the context of long-term developments. The jury was also impressed by the fact that the University has increased its degree offerings from one to four in the last six years. These courses are jointly offered with other partner universities.
