Unique Chair for Preclinical Imaging in Tübingen
The University of Tübingen has opened a Werner Siemens Foundation laboratory for preclinical imaging and imaging technology. This unique Chair is the only one in Europe which links preclinical imaging and the development of new imaging technologies for research and the clinic.
The primary goal of the laboratory is the interdisciplinary basic research in the areas of radiology, oncology, neurology, cardiology and Immunology linking these with the most modern imaging technologies. The laboratory is to contribute to solving biological and medical questions in the area of preclinical imaging with the aid of an engineering approach. Via the close cooperation between preclinical and clinical research new therapy approaches should now be brought into the clinic quicker and more effectively. Illnesses such as tumours, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or threatening vascular obliterations near the heart can then be detected earlier and diagnosed better leading to more effective therapies.
The laboratory works with numerous international universities, in particular in the USA, and with various national research institutes. Worldwide it is one of the three reference laboratories of the company Siemens Preclinical Solutions, which regularly trains scientists from all over the world in the areas of non-invasive preclinical imaging in workshops.
